The Engines and Systems Association within the German Engineering Federation is the communication and information platform of the manufacturers of combustion engines in all industrial applications as well as their supply industry.
VDMA Engines and Systems provides a platform to highlight topical issues related to industry needs and represents the sector`s interests towards the policy and the legislator.

Since the development of the first functional internal combustion engines more than a hundred years ago, they have changed our life like almost no other technical development before. Although the public will immediately think of internal combustion engines in terms of the role they play in automobiles, they also play an important role in mobile machinery, such as construction machinery and agricultural tractors, as well in ships, locomotives and in the stationary energy supply.
Although the basic principle has remained virtually unchanged, the long-term supremacy of the internal combustion engine is due particularly to the enormous improvements. Over the last two decades the engine manufacturers have achieved remarkable progress in the reduction of exhaust emissions at receiving high engine efficiency. Both, gaseous emissions and particulates have been reduced as a result of engine internal measures and after-treatment systems. Experts agree that even further improvements can be made through greater and more effective charging or new injection technologies and better control of the combustion process. Furthermore internal combustion engines continue to have extremely favourable cost structures.
