German laundry and textile cleaning technology is used worldwide in industrial, large-scale laundries, hospital and hotel laundries, by workwear service providers and coin-operated laundries, along with small private textile cleaning companies or textile cleaning chains that can be found in any town.
The upwards trend already forecast in 2004 in China and South Korea has been more than confirmed in 2005, with South Korea experiencing an exponential increase. China was unable, as previously anticipated, to significantly raise its growth, however it did experience a steady growth rate and overtook the USA. South Korea is now the biggest supplier of laundry and textile cleaning systems, although qualifying this slightly is the fact that South Korea continues to primarily export to China.
The classic manufacturing countries for laundry and textile technology, Germany and Italy, were able to maintain their high level of supply to the global market. Germany actually significantly increased its delivery volume and closed the gap on Italy.
Although South Korea ranks first in quantitative terms as the most important supplier of laundry and textile cleaning systems, it should be mentioned that the innovative high-tech continues to come from the classical manufacturing countries.
In 2005, exports of German laundry and textile cleaning technology rose very significantly compared to the previous year. This means that export volumes were at their highest for 6 years.
If one examines Germany's role as a global exporter of laundry and textile cleaning equipment, one notices that the states of the EU 25, after years of moderate decline, again buy significantly more laundry and textile cleaning equipment from 2004 to 2005. This is due to the need for recuperation in terms of investment. The purchase of investment goods was modest and reserved in previous years. This investment stasis was also accentuated by a concentration process in the buyer sector of EU buyer states' domestic markets and should now be resolved.
The curve upwards in the Asia sector is even steeper. Here, a significant increase is evident and this is due to the constantly growing demand for high-quality textile and laundry equipment in Asia. The rapid development of the Asian urban centres, such as China, plays a key role in this.
On the markets of the remaining countries of Europe, the USA and Central and South America, the level of sales was maintained overall. If one looks at the export markets for German laundry and textile cleaning technology relative to individual countries, it becomes clear that exports to the USA have fallen slightly, however the gap to Turkey, as the number two in the rankings, has increased due to a significantly lower volume of sales compared to the previous year.
The total proportion of exports to the 15 nations listed has fallen in favour of the countries not listed individually, such that one can speak of a proportionate drop in the volume of exports in the classical industrial nations and exporting countries. The total volume of sales for German laundry and textile cleaning technology, however, has somewhat remarkably risen by almost 15 per cent from 2004 to 2005.
A generally positive picture has developed for the Asian market in 2005 in the context of the exports of German laundry and textile cleaning equipment. The positive trend in China, following a hiatus in 2004, continued with a further rise. The export situation continues to remain positive in Pakistan, although the curve is not rising quite as steeply.
Of note is the sharp rise in India's export curve. One can expect that this trend will continue in the near future. India, as an upcoming nation with its constant economic growth, promises to be one of the most interesting markets in the world. This is supported by several general economic factors.
Apart from rising wealth and the changing consumer behaviour that goes with it among upper and middle classes, the fact that the textile industry is a key indicator of economic growth in India is of significance for the sales of laundry and textile cleaning equipment.
Thanks to these developments, there is a growing need for investment goods in this sector, which is also reflected in the sales of German laundry and textile cleaning technology.
