In 2008, China was the third most important export market for the German mechanical engineering industry (10.9 bn EUR in exports, + 14.9 %). For the German Power Transmission Engineering Industry export data amounts to 848 m. EUR (+ 11 %).
The Power Transmission Engineering Association of the VDMA, represent the interests of approx. 185 members from the fields of power transmission engineering. Our membership comprises more than 80% of all the companies in the industry operating in the German market. We provide our members with targeted information on all aspects of power transmission engineering. In working groups and committees we collaborate closely with experts from our member companies: With the industry – for the industry.
The Power Transmission Engineering industry were able to increase their total sales volume significantly in the year 2008, even compared with the record year of 2007. Power Transmission Engineering accounting for 19.6 billion Euros (+10 per cent).
Thanks to their high capacity for innovation and their good international technological competitiveness, the power transmission engineering industry has been able to increase their exports continuously for many years (power transmission engineering exports 70 % of total turnover,). An international comparison quickly reveals that Germany has been the leading export nation for many years. Moreover, in excess of one third of all the companies in these industries now have production facilities outside Germany, most notably in China, India, Eastern Europe and the USA.
With 89,200 employees is the Power Transmission Engineering industry one of the largest segment within the engineering industry.
