Being an integral part of the VDMA - the trade association of the German machinery and plant manufacturing companies -, the Association of German Manufacturers of Printing and Paper Equipment and Supplies is the trade association of manufacturers of technical prepress equipment, printing machines for all printing processes, paper converting machines as well as paper making and finishing machines.

Printing & Paper Equipment and Supplies

The member companies of the Association represent approx. 90 % of the production value of this industry. Due to this high degree of organization, the Association can represent the interests of this industry at a national and international level.

The Association of German Manufacturers of Printing and Paper Equipment and Supplies is responsible for commercial and technical questions arising within this industry:

Through the market observations and statistics segment, the member companies receive information and data which enables them to have an eye on their current market position and make the right strategic decision. Benchmarking is the keyword here.
And in the technical field, the elimination of trade barriers is the driving force behind many activities. By taking over the Secretariat of the CEN/TC 198, the Association has assumed a leading role at European level in the harmonization of technical safety requirements for printing and paper converting machinery as well as paper making and finishing machinery within the EU. Our aim here is to press for the preparation of user-friendly and practice-oriented technical rules. All this is made complete with the work and the representation of interests within the ISO at an international level.
But we are also a partner for the member companies by supporting their marketing activities through an intense commitment in fairs and exhibitions in Germany and other countries. The Association of German Manufacturers of Printing and Paper Equipment and Supplies is one of the promoters of drupa – print media messe. In important export markets, the Association additionally organizes catalog exhibitions, special seminars and an official German participation with the support of the BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economics).

The Printing and Paper Technology Foundation

People, their commitment and their creativity are the most important potential of a company. In a technologically leading industry like printing and paper technology which has a global orientation based on an 80% market share, qualified and highly motivated staff become the all-deciding factor in the competition. The progressing development of systems and processes and the move into new fields of business are challenging tasks for engineers. Transforming a design into a product by manufacturing and assembling it, but also customer services are the challenges for competent and skilled technical staff. Supporting motivation and high performane is the mission of the Printing and Paper Technology Foundation (Stiftung Druck- und Papiertechnik) und the Dr.-Ing. E.h. Hubert H.A. Sternberg Foundation.

The FGD - German Printing Machinery Research Association

In the print media production process, the printing machine holds the central position. Both, prepress and print finishing align themselves with the performance of the printing machine. Within the printing machine system itself, there are again complex electric/electronic, chemical and physical processes. The optimal interaction of these processes and parameters is a precondition of the economic efficiency and high performance of the machines. The complexity of processes and materials requires cross-company interdisciplinary research. The FGD acts as a coordinating link between the printing machinery industry, research institutes at universities and other research institutes.
