On the world market the German manufacturers are the leading suppliers of textile machinery and accessories. In 2006 they had a share of nearly 30% in global exports.
Today, textile engineering is one of the most important branches of engineering and plant construction in Germany. The industry occupied a staff of 21,500 in 2006 producing textile machinery and accessories worth 3.5 billion Euro. With an export rate of 95%, the industry is one of the strongest engineering branches in terms of exports.
In 2006, the export value was roundly 3.6 billion Euro. As measured by the textile exports of the 11 leading export nations, amounting to 12.3 billion Euro, the German companies had a share of nearly 30 % in global exports, followed by the competitors Japan (1.9 billion Euro), Italy (1.7 billion Euro) and Switzerland (1 billion Euro) at a significant distance. Germany maintains the position of world export champion for textile machinery for more than 50 years now.
The most important export destination for German textile machinery in 2006 was China. The exports to the People’s republic reached 929 million Euro. The top five is completed by India (368 million Euro), Turkey (236 million), United States (192 million) and Italy (172 million).
