High precision

Textile machines for technical textiles with high precision

New generations of textile machines or improved processes in combination with tailor-made fibres enlarge to a high extent the application for textiles.

Beyond the classical application fields of garment or domestic textiles, textile machines nowadays produce textiles with highest precision, and their technical performance parameter reaching a high degree of excellence, required for instance for the motor car industry, the medical technology and the electronics industry.

Each passenger car comprises already now an average of 20 kg of textile material. Apart from products for comfortable seating or the interior lining, textiles in motor cars take over technical tasks up to safety functions, such as e.g. tire fabric, safety belts or airbags. For the production of airbag fabric auxiliary procedures, normally used for a stabilization of the yarn, cannot be applied and non twisted and unsized filament yarns shall be used. Air jet weaving machines accelerate filament yarns for the weft insertion up to 8.000 m/s2 (800 times the acceleration due to gravity). None of the up to 144 single capillaries of filament yarns must brake, in order to produce the faultless and perfect fabric as required by the automobile industry. This precision is required from textile machines throughout a long machine life. Whereas the life time of a passenger car lasts about 4.000 operational hours, a weaving machine performance amounts to 80.000 hours.

Flat knitting and circular knitting machines produce wire knit fabrics for catalytic converters or radiator hose covers made of Kevlar. Other textile machines produce stress adjusted fibres, woven fabrics or warp knitted fabrics for the strengthening of synthetic material for the sideways impact protection.

Application fields of textiles are not yet fully exhausted. This means not only enormous challenges but also great chances for the world-wide leading German textile machinery industry. German textile machinery manufacturers have always been able during the past to cope in a flexible and creative way with the requirements of the market and they will also in future stand for it.
